About CIPM Nigeria

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) was established in 1968 as an umbrella body for personnel management practitioners. Initially named the Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria in 1973, it gained its charter under Act No 58 of 1992, granting it the authority to regulate and standardize HR practices in Nigeria.

CIPM represents Nigeria in the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations (WFPMA), ensuring alignment with global best practices. CIPM Courses & Exam Structure

To achieve professional membership, candidates must pass six levels of exams across foundational, intermediate, and professional tiers. Below is the breakdown:

Foundation Level

CIPM Eligibility Requirements

  • Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE): Minimum five credits, including English and Mathematics.

  • Higher Education Qualifications: OND/NCE holders start from Foundation II, while Bachelor’s Degree/HND holders in relevant fields begin at Intermediate levels.

  • Professional Experience: Candidates with significant HR experience or qualifications from recognized institutes may qualify for exemptions.

     

    Examination Schedule

    CIPM exams are conducted twice annually, in February and August. Candidates must register as student members at least one month before the exam date. Detailed guidelines are provided in the syllabus.

    CIPM Membership Fees
    • Acceptance Fee: N6,500

    • Annual Dues: N4,500

    Please note that all fees are subject to revision by the institute’s Governing Council.

Exemptions

Exemption provisions apply based on qualifications and experience:

  1. Holders of WASSCE/NECO/GCE O-Level begin at Foundation I.

  2. OND/NCE holders start from Foundation II.

  3. Bachelor’s Degree/HND holders in related fields start from Intermediate II.

  4. Higher degree holders (e.g., MBA, M.Sc, Ph.D.) in relevant fields start from Professional I.
